The La Palma Chess Club schedule
Summer Session 2012 (June 22 through August 31, 2012)

Entry Fee

$45 for the Summer session (includes both tournaments & Simul). Or, $40 for Big Fish, Little Fish; $25 for Simul; and $35 for Surfing on the Seventh Rank. All fees $5 less for players under 18 or La Palma residents.

Tournament Details


Big Fish, Little Fish

A 5–round Swiss in two sections. Big Fish section: 10 highest rated players plus any additional late entrants whose ratings are in this bracket. Little Fish section: all others.

Registration: 6-7 p.m. Rounds start at 7 p.m.

Prizes in both sections: 1st. place, $75 and 2nd. place, $30. Best game (as judged by IM Jack Peters) from either section, $20.

Little Fish Section: Largest rating gain, $20.

Time control: Game/120, d/5

Byes: One half-point bye may be taken.  An irrevocable last round half-point bye is allowed only if declared before the first round starts.


Surfing on the Seventh Rank

5-round Swiss in one section.

Registration: 6-7 p.m. Rounds start at 7 p.m.

Prizes: 1st. place, $50 and 2nd. place, $30. Largest rating gain, $20. Best game (as judged by IM Jack Peters) from either section, $20.

Time control: Game/120, d/5

Jack Peters Simultaneous

International Master Jack Peters will give a lecture on chess, and then simultaneously play all challengers, up to a limit of 35. Anyone who wins or draws his or her game against Jack will win a special prize.
